Salvatore Ferragamo: Inspirations and Visions
Florence, Salvatore Ferragamo Museum: a show that travels through moments, inspirations and visions that influenced the career of Salvatore Ferragamo from when he arrived in California in the mid-1910s to his success as a shoe designers for the grand dames of Hollywood.
The discovery of the tomb of King Tutankhamen in 1922 was a huge source of inspiration for Ferragamo, which we can see in the sandals that director Cecil B. DeMille commissioned for the actors in his film, the Ten Commandments.
Another important time was his return to Florence in 1927, a time when the city was the cultural center of the country. Here, Ferragamo was mesmerized by the moments and applied art collections, like the one by Frederick Stibbert at the Archeological, Anthropological and Natural History museum.
In addition to these sources, Ferragamo appreciated Futurism and artists like Thayaht, Sonia Delaunay, Duchamp, Giò Ponti.
255 works on exhibit, including 99 shoe samples from the 1920s until the end of the 1950s and 156 works of art from international, Italian and Florentine collections.
